Select grit, mineral and density together
Grit influences cutting and scratch refinement, while density affects firmness, conformity and edge retention. Silicon carbide and aluminum oxide can behave differently by metal and finish. Supplier color systems are not universal, so approve the written grade rather than relying on color alone.

Confirm machine and safety compatibility
Provide diameter, thickness, bore or mounting, machine type and operating speed. The permitted speed belongs to the complete product construction and cannot be assumed from another size or supplier.
Test and document the approved result
Use the intended workpiece, machine, pressure and feed during sample evaluation. Record the approved specification and surface result for quotation, production inspection and repeat orders.
