Start with disc shape and working angle
Flat and conical flap discs create different contact patterns. Match the profile to flat work, edges, contours and the grinder angle used by the operator. Confirm diameter, bore or thread and guard clearance.
Choose abrasive grain for the workpiece
Aluminum oxide is widely used for general metal finishing. Zirconia alumina can support demanding stock removal and longer cutting action in suitable constructions. Calcined and other supplier-listed grains should be compared through a defined sample test.

Match grit to the operation
- Coarser grit for heavier grinding and weld blending
- Medium grit for controlled stock removal and transition work
- Finer grit for surface refinement before a later finishing step
- A documented sample when appearance consistency matters

Evaluate backing and flexibility
Backing material, flap count and soft or hard construction affect support, conformity and working feel. State the surface geometry, required cut and target finish when requesting a recommendation.
Prepare the bulk or private-label specification
List disc size, mounting, grain, grit, construction, maximum operating requirements, quantity, label and packaging. Keep the approved sample or specification as the repeat-order reference.
